The Golden Age of TV: How Quality is Surpassing Quantity

The Golden Age of TV

There are so many TV shows and movies available now that it’s easy to get lost in the sheer amount of choices. Each major streaming service boasts thousands of titles on demand. Traditional TV like DISH Network and DirecTV have hundreds of channels and thousands of titles on demand to watch too.

But it’s changing, because it had to. Twenty years ago, people loved having hundreds of channels to choose from, but not anymore. How do you choose what to watch when there’s an overabundance of choices? Are we paying for more options than we actually want?

TV service has been going through its next phase; the golden age of TV. People care way more about good TV shows and movies over just having a lot of them. They want detailed stories and to get emotionally invested in what they’re watching. Not just have background noise or channels to flip through to pass the time. If you’re a big TV watcher, you may have noticed the shift from quality is surpassing quality. Here’s how it’s changing now:

Original Limited Series & TV Shows

This is how streaming services attract new subscribers; creating original limited series, TV shows and movies in their own studios. Netflix is known for this. Orange is the New Black, Ozark, Bridgerton, and House of Cards are huge hits only found on Netflix. Hulu has done a good job with originals too, most notably The Handmaids Tale and The Bear.

Content From All Over The World

The internet has made our world more connected than ever. Streaming services have recognized this by offering more TV shows and movies from all over the world. You can find everything from telenovelas, dramas, comedies, and other genres that are different from what you’d normally find on typical English speaking streaming services and channels.

Traditional TV providers have their own international TV packages too. DISH Network boldly claims they’re the number one international TV provider in the United States with channels in over 20 different languages. From Spanish to Bangla and Chinese; DISH Network has it.

Specialized Channels Doing More

Channels like Showtime and Starz make their own original shows that are different from what you’d find on regular TV too. They’re more captivating, intense and appeal to an edgier crowd. Serious streamers and binge watchers love exclusive shows like Raising Kanan, P-Valley, The Chi, Ray Donovan and more.

Better Technology Making TV Look & Sound Better

Technology is getting better all the time and TV hasn’t been left out. Starting with movie studios; they have HD and 4K cameras, better microphones and cool sound effects. TVs at home look and sound so much better now as a result. Plus, they’re cheaper than they used to be. Purchasing a smart TV or a 4K TV is more accessible than ever.

Help Finding The Best Movies & TV Shows

There are so many new TV shows and movies, it’s hard to know which ones are good or worth trying an episode or two. You may have noticed this, but streaming services have been helping you out with special carousels suggesting what you might like and it has been getting better.

So make sure you place that thumbs up or thumbs down on that show you just finished. It’ll help your streaming services suggest more based on what you like and what you don’t like.
